January 16th Meeting
We accomplished a lot today. We started working on the United We Stand badge by learning the proper way to conduct a flag ceremony. We also finished the Science Sleuth badge by making snow, seeing if we can create sparks with Certs candy, and by making paper.
December 15th Meeting
Today we had a lot of fun decorating gingerbread houses. The icing was messy and the candy sweet. The girls are very creative.
December 5th Meeting
Mrs. Buffenbarger and Mrs. Young kicked-off cookie sales with our annual cookie meeting. They reviewed selling rules and we brainstormed on new places to sell. We completed the Cookie Connection badge and the Cookie Activity Pin. At the end of the meeting we started working on posters for our cookie booth.
November 21st Meeting
We started working on the Science Sleuth badge. Each of the girls completed a fingerprint card and then placed their fingerprints on a cup. The goal was for each girl to lift one fingerprint from the glass, examine it and try to figure out who it belonged to. It was really tough. The girls also looked and prisms and tried to figure out the best concoction for cleaning a copper penny.
November 7th Meeting
Leader’s Note: Today we traveled to Sterling to complete our Fun and Fit badge at Fitwize for Kids. The girls warmed-up and then completed a circuit using exercise machines designed for children. In addition to a great workout, the girls had a lot of fun.
October 17th Meeting
Leader’s Note: Today we celebrated Juliet Low’s birthday. We also finished the Being My Best badge by working on peer pressure skits and finishing the ‘brag bag’ cards. Don’t forget to do your good deed before our next meeting.
October 3rd Meeting by O.S.
Last week in Junior Girl Scouts, we were talking about how to record our books. We are recording books for people who cannot afford to buy audio books and for the people who do not speak English very well. The books we are recording are Dr. Suess's ABC and The Eensy Weensy Spider. Each girl in the group will do ten tapes.
This year we are doing something new. Each meeting, a girl will be assigned a job. For example, Queens of Clean. This means making sure everything is cleaned up. Others are passing out papers and deciding what songs to sing. At the end of the meeting, we all got index cards and wrote each girl's name and something nice about them.
Leader's Note: The girls are recording books on tape for Loudoun Literacy, our first service project of the year. Congratulations to the troop for creating 100 books on tape for children in the Head Start program. The troop loves the kapers assigned for the year. In addition to the meeting kapers, two girls are assigned to writing in the blog. Currently the troop is working on Sign of the Star and the Being My Best badge.
Sep 12th Kick-off Pizza Party
We had a good time starting off the year with pizza, playing, and friends. We voted on the two signs that we will work on this year – the Sign of the Star and the Sign of the Rainbow won. We finished the meeting with a Court of Awards.
Aug 25th Canoeing Trip
We finished our activities toward bridging with a campfire, cookout, and canoeing at Camp Highroad. The girls had a lot of fun leaning water safety and experimenting with canoeing techniques. Hotdogs and smores over the campfire were really good. We completed a few activities toward the Small Craft badge.
